It conducts a wholesale distribution business for electrical, communications and data networking products, and is a provider of related supply-chain management and logistics services. It is included on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations.

A former employee shares his disappointing experience on indeed.com, "Do not work for Graybar! Management is terrible and can be borderline harassing when it comes to tasks.

  • They don't believe in raises*. No advancement opportunities in the company. Training is an absolute joke.

Absolutely no privacy. New phone system installed where managers can listen to your phone calls without you knowing. They don't believe in cubicle walls so everyone hears every conversation and sits out in the open. Very unethical place to work. They violated several Hippa laws when I worked there including telling my team why I was in the hospital when it was a private matter."

"Terribly mismanaged. Arrogant managers, directors and VPs, that compete against each other rather than work towards the common good of the company. Extremely antiquated culture. If you are looking for a job where you can collect a pay check by doing the bare minimum (show up), then this it the right place for you. If you do ever have a problem, HR will NOT help you. Instead they'll do whatever they can to bury the issue vs dealing with it. As an IT professional who worked there for 6 years, I can tell you top level leadership, including the president has no idea what current technology can do, nor are they interested in a path to get there. Salaries are not competitive in today's market. I'm making 40k more a year to do the same job for my current company."

"This company is all about upper management, making big bonuses on the backs of hardworking frontline customer facing workers. When times get rough, they ALWAYS cut the workers, never management. During this Pandemic Crisis, they went thru every district and eliminated over 200 + positions. In doing so, they eliminated jobs of long time producing employees forcing them into forced retirements in most cases on a service pension that one cannot live on without another job. In my own situation my job was eliminated, and the reason " It's a numbers thing", this is unacceptable! With the economy dead, and without access to one's 401K or profit sharing without having to absorb penalties,this leaves people in extremely tough situations. Then after they eliminated positions, they issued a company wide furlough. Now, forget about the Pandemic for a minute if you can, Raises better be happy with 1 & 2 %, when health insurance, food, and gas prices go up this doesn't cover it. And don't get paid over scale for your position, else HR steps in and eliminates your position. When coworkers screw-off on the clock, with other coworkers to the point where it becomes disruptive, nothing is done about it; at times for hours on end, as I witnessed multiple times. When coworkers watch movies on the clock, or surf the web on their cellphones nothing is done. When it's brought to management, nothing's done to correct it; rather they hide in their offices. When customer orders get screwed up during order entry, Management argues to the defense of the error, not the individual who didn't follow instructions. In all, this company used to regard it's employees as an asset; NOT ANY MORE! Frontline workers are simply Grunts who are expected to generate huge sums of profits, while management keeps getting wider at the beltline. They have a lot more Chiefs than Indians! My friends and customers, used to refer to me as "Mr. Graybar!"; if I ever hear that statement again I will blow a gasket!!"

"Graybar doesn't have a real plan for dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak, which is understandable as I'm sure most companies don't. However, my main issue is that we are forbidden from working remotely, even though we have the capability. The majority of us have laptops with VPN access (which isn't even required for everyone's role) and a Webex account. There is zero excuse why we can't. Instead, Graybar decides to risk our safety by having us come in everyday during a pandemic. Today, we had a call with one of the VPs who told us that Graybar is part of the Department of Homeland Security's Critical Infrastructure Sector. I'm not sure if that's true, but there are still companies who are part of those sectors that are allowing employees to telecommute. So instead, he tells us to spread out on our floor because apparently there's plenty of room and there will be zero people working remote. The world could be on fire and Graybar would still tell its employees to come into work."

"Horrible place. Poorly managed. Cannot believe they are still in business. The workers there are constantly fighting with each other, and complaining about any work being done.Only thing good, is that there are other jobs available somewhere else. It's one of those jobs that they will tell you what you want to hear to keep you and keep you working hard but everything stays the same. "A typical day began with a demeaning and childish meeting for employees to be scolded for doing things that management refused to actually deal with. The cut off time for orders was late, thanks to management, causing the already late shift to stay even later - instead of having earlier shifts stay overtime. No shift differential. If you were unable to stay late, you were to report it to your manager after the meeting. Upon doing so, you were practically shunned the rest of the day. Work/life balance does not exist. Managers refuse to hire workers that actually want to work. And the employees that have been there for several years are allowed to continue being bad, useless workers while people that actually want to go home on time are forced to work double-time and overtime to get the job done. No one is trained properly by anyone who actually has their wits about them. Management is so poor that neither of them have any actual experience in their roles. If you like a mumble-mouthed manager whose words never make it passed the chew he always has in his lip, you might like your job. If you like to have a woman in charge, congrats - you've come to the right place to be disappointed by the two women that are in any role of authority. They do not care about you and they do not communicate - by any means. And they talk about employees on their endless amounts of smoke breaks. Despite all that - management has the audacity to play favorites with the worst people who work there. So, unless you can throw yourself all over your managers - you will be used and abused here."

Every other day, something is breaking down whether it;s the A/C or machines. The summer times are brutal working here because the warehouse has poor A/C systems. Everyone including the managers and supervisors are rude, ghetto, and unprofessional. You will receive negative energy from coworkers, especially the elders who've been there 20 plus years, and from supervisors who barely know how to do their job. If you have an issue with someone, don't even think to report them to the manager of the warehouse or HR because nothing will be done. The supervisors also have "favorites", meaning they don't treat everyone fairly. This company is a hole in a wall place for people who can't find a job that's better. Only the supervisors and managers receive bonuses. Benefits don't apply unless you stay here for a year. You only receive stock if you stay with the company for three years.Everyday you will be mentally and physically drained to the point where you may consider taking medications just to be able to make it through the day. "I worked at the Carteret location in NJ for 9 months and this has to be one of the most poorly managed warehouses I’ve ever had the displeasure of calling my work place. Upper management doesn’t know how to speak to people like adults and makes the floor workers pick up the slack for their poor decisions throughout the day. If you enjoy being talked down to after breaking your back for 10+ hours 5 days a week please by all means work the floor at Graybar Electric. Management does not value their employees time. Overtime is compulsory and expect to work 2 hours OT on a good day. You receive no notice of needing to work OT until 10-15 minutes before your shift is up and don’t even think about saying no because if you’re not on the floor at Graybar you are “wasting your time” as one manager put it. You will be expected to go above and beyond your job title regularly. Expect to learn at least 2-3 different positions during your time there. There is no incentive to work harder or faster as finishing your work before your shift is up or on time will just bring more work or training to do your second or third hat at work more effectively. The training is sporadic and poorly taught so I hope you’re “resourceful”. After expecting so much from their employees for 13.50 (soon to be 15 so you can make as much flipping burgers in NY) an hour you would think they would treat their workers with a modicum of value but you can forget that lofty ideal at Graybar. The job security is non existent. You can be fired on the whim of any of the temperamental managers with no prior writePizza Parties. Free shirts and hoodies.Take your worst day at work and multiply it by 10. That’s a good day working the floor at Graybar."

Stay away from this company.They clean fridge out and send an email to everyone 3 times a week to inform you that they are.no support to help you achieve your job, an office politic game like I've never even knew existed, most tenured people there have no idea what they do, they just skirt the work and responsibility off to other"
